More Texas than Driving...

Yesterdays drive on Hwy-285 brought me through the town of Encino and Vaughn, In between these major towns I stopped and made coffee, had to hide the stove behind a big enough surface to block the strong winds form blowing out that darn thing. I was talking with Annelise Missbach and during that time a little rest-area appeared on the side of the road and a had to grab that opportunity. Now that I caught-up with her, her newest nephew and daughters 2nd experiance of giving birth, I really needed a strong cup of java. A 18 wheeler stopped there right as I poured myself the coffee, 2 Indian, East Indians, not Sigs because they were not wearing a turban, ask me for directions... Boy these guys were lost, but I pointed them in the right direction and they U-turned and headed back in the direction I was going soon too.

Making coffee nowhere and a Cafe nowhere...

One of my favorite things is trains on-route to nowhere...

Now I'm continue on Rt-60, through Yeso, and another twenty miles to Fort Summer where I stopped for more tea, then another 40 miles later Merose, 30 miles later Clovis then the border-town to Texas, Texico. I crossed into the new state just past 7 pm, had the romanic thought to stay in Farewell but was so disappointed that I just kept on going, through Lariat and Progress to Muleshoe.

Driving into Texas, and finding rest in Muleshoe...

At quarter to nine I checked into the Valley Motel here. Tired and hungry, but it was kind of fun to meet the hosts of the motel, all from India, well that is to no surprise to me but I ask them how they ended up here in Muleshoe Texas, kind of like the last place one want's to end up in, but here they are and I have a little chat with them, great fun.
For diner I walk over to a mexican place that is still serving and then back to the hotel room, of corse I do some more e-mailing on the computer and pictures and writing, reading and once it is all dark, wishing to have some female companion here with me, but never mind here comes the next freight-train, with blowing horns and about one-hundred cars in tow... then falling asleep dreaming about the 1903 miles I drove to get here...
This morning I was up and out of the motel-room in no time, well still, it is quarter past ten by the time I drive of the motel parking-lot. First gas-up and check oil and debug the windshield. Here the gas is sold for 1.899 per gallon and I take about 9.555 gallons with me and added almost 2 quarts of oil to the poor engine. With my cup filled with hot tea and a large yogurt-container full of müssely I finally head further south-east, the first town the Rt-84 goes through is Sudan, shit I should've filled up here with gas, but no, the same price as in America, ohh well. My goal today is Fredericksburg, a total of over 450 miles to get there, might as well get busy with doing things, more writing, catching-up with my chinese lessons, I've fallen way behind with it. On this trip it is only the second time I'm at it, but at least I'm at it...
Lubbock, Post, Justiceburg and Snyder, the land of oil-pumps, cotton-fields, wind-mills and cattle-raising. I pass the 2000 mile-mark of this trip right after Lubbock. In Sweetwater I hit another Interstate. I-20 carries me for 40 miles, spits me out right before Abilene and then back to country-highway. I really don't care for driving on the intestates, most the time it's boring and much of it is the same, but it sure safes time and therefore it's a reason to travel on them.
Back on Rt-84 East, through Lawn, then the phone rings and I catch-up with Vicky in Tuckahoe, NY to hear what her plans are over the Easter-weekend, boyfriend situation and what else is new, we got disconnected and I realized that it is just about 3 o'clock once more and that I had to piss like a racehorse... so lets do it!!!

I'm on Trip-mile 2192, it's gloomy and it might rain again soon...

And what about Me???

My photo
Berkeley, California, United States
My life as a vagabond in the last few years got me to some amazing places, met great people and have lots of stories to share. I love exploring, travel, biking, dancing to Zydeco music, hanging out with friends, biking and many other things to keep me in trouble... best is when I can combine a few of these things together!!! Then there is the photography, writing and might as well do some cooking too, after all eating is another of my favorite thing!!!
