You Said what Again???

It is time to prepare for another job in Piedmont, in a really nice house, old and spanish looking with surrounded by a wild feeling garden. In the dinning-room the client wants to ad 9 recessed lights to light-up art and the table better... there are faux beams on the ceiling and ideal would be that these 4" round fixtures are spaced in the middle of these visual beams. Interesting is gonna be when I find out where the joists are and where I be able to place these new lights... and nine of them... boy there's gonna be a big mess once I'm done with cutting into the plaster ceiling. I already met with the plaster guy Armando to time this whole thing and we're set for Monday, William the designer will come by too to check on the placing of the lights. Now it's time to go and get the materials so I can go away for the weekend and get there early Monday morning. I go to Lamer Electric, ahh I mean Laner Electric and after that I want to go to Costco to buy a few things I need for the near future.
I get to Laner just before 4 pm and guess what... I didn't get the memo that they close earlier because of the economic crisis... the last guy is just about ready to walk out... what!!! I'm going to the chinese guy I teased him, but he was just shaking his head in disbelieve himself as he walked to his car... it gets even better, I forgot my check-book to go to Costco after that failed attempt and now I realize I failed even more... fuck, might as well just go back home and take a nap. back in the car I do take e few cool pictures of San Francisco way far away across the bay, halfway hiding from me in a big fog-bank and clouds.

Cool views to San Francisco from Bayshore Ave. in Richmond...

Rich calls me as I'm taking those photos and he wants me to stop by his office to talk about that much talked about possible job in Napa, I don't really wanna go and see him and talk about something that is not gonna happen anyway because not having the lights ordered and thought out the design and so on. But anyway, I do like to go see him, to be amused of how good I have it gone for me, and that his world is worse off than mine with just forgetting my check-book and Laner closes in front of my nose.
I hang out with him at his office and listen to him whine about all these clients and jobs and people and problems and neighbors and and and...
Now that I feel much better about myself again, and I'm back home, I finally come across my lost five-hundred dollars, Rich paid me in cash some weeks back, I placed them somewhere and could not remember where for weeks now... ahh things are looking up again. Then talking to Eva, my friend and neighbor from up the street, to make plans for this evenings dinner and movie... Now I really have to go to Costco. Stuart wanted to roast a chicken he bought and now he found out that it is not good anymore, so, at Costco they have the best roasted chicken you can buy, for a measly 4.99.
Off I go on my second attempt, equipped with a shopping-list and some coupons to buy some memory cards they had on sale, two, four giga-bite for Flash Cards for $.... another two, four giga-bite SD card for $.... and 2 micro SD cards with a SD adapter for and then I got a seventeen dollar rebate right at the check-out. Then I need motor-oil for my upcoming road-trip and a few other things including the famous roasted chicken. After that 213 dollar shopping-sprea I had to dash home to prepare dinner, or what's left to do for tonight's dinner. The bag of finger-potatoes I bought too needed to be washed, cut, salted, micro-waved for about 10 minutes before I fry them with the sautéed onions to a good crisp, also prepare a salad and by that time Eva and Andreas where at the door with some roasted red carrots and a movie. Let the fun begin, lets eat. Stuart could not join us, he might be home later and so we indulged in our semi home-made meal.
The movie Andreas brought over this time was a romantic comedy... we pretty much laughed all the way through and got a glimbs of rural life in Australia. The movie was "Danny Deckchair" and I highly recommend it to watch if your ready for some light-harded, some stupid and plain funny movie to watch.
It was pretty late for me by the time I cleared the field, washed half of the dishes and I had to read a bit more about my kitchen hero.
I didn't set an alarm for the morning and could take it easy until about 11 o'clock when I had to go by the Newman Hall in Berkeley to repair a lighting contactor that has acted up before. This is a client of Rich and I have helped him there many times fixing things. A pretty big church completely out of raw concrete and that lighting-contactor lives behind the altar and so I had to behave while I'm there, tried not to swear too much about that piece of shit old crap model that is wired in a way that makes no sense. Last time when I was there was with Rich right on December 24th, replace all the burned-out lamps and also tinkered around with this contactor, it gets stuck sometimes in a dead spot and then you have to take the cover off and move it manually into the on or off position. This crummy piece of lousy engineering is mechanically dumb and then some doofos wired it up that make even less sense than it should. I remembered to tell Rich last time that a bit of lub at the right spot could to wonders on the mechanical part of this joke. So now it is my turn to try to make it work until we find a replacement on the near future. I change the wiring and bend some of the contacts into a better position and managed to get some lubricant into the piston and mechanical parts, lets hope.

See me doing a fine job in fixing old problems...

I have to be out of this place before the noon service of the church and so I'm to hurry.
I went home for lunch, killed the rest of this humungus leftover of a buritto from couple nights dinner, now I'm stuffed again... what a meal that is for the second time around!!!
Another attempt to go to Lamer Electric, I called in the order before I head there and I just can't believe how many times I had to repeat myself, and after every item the famous question, "is that it???" "no, I need some trim for these lights too, I want the slotted pinhole" "what, did you say" and I repeat again, and after that "is that it" "no, I need some lamps for these fixtures, how about 4 MR-16 35W flood" " what???" I repeat again until then I hear typing and clicking and more questioning... and again "is that it???" I tell you I just want to through that phone far away, so far that I hit the guy right in the face... why do they ask this every time, kind of like "o.k. sir, you ordered enough now, we really don't need your business right now so please can I hang-up now and go play solitaire again..." Anyway, we finally finished this ordeal and he can hang up and do wants to do... And so can I, how about making a cup of coffee, after all it is close to 3 o'clock again...

3 pm Driving down on Ashby Ave towards the freeway...

And what about Me???

My photo
Berkeley, California, United States
My life as a vagabond in the last few years got me to some amazing places, met great people and have lots of stories to share. I love exploring, travel, biking, dancing to Zydeco music, hanging out with friends, biking and many other things to keep me in trouble... best is when I can combine a few of these things together!!! Then there is the photography, writing and might as well do some cooking too, after all eating is another of my favorite thing!!!
