Smelling the Flowers...

Riding into Breaux Bridge turned into a challenge, my energy tank showed "empty" and all of a sudden I had no more juice left to peddle strong against that nasty headwind. I feel like I almost fade but I keep riding at a slower pace and look forward to get off the saddle. I made it. Right at the parking area I ask one of the support-team for something to snack on, a small bag of Oreo cookies do the job to hold me over until I have my hands on a more substantial snack. But first, haul my luggage, the duffle-bag and one bag on rollers, out to the field where I set up camp for tonight. Shower and a fresh chance of cloth I head out to the Cajun Luau across the street, a beautiful setting right along the Bayou Teche. Music, unfortunately Cajun which I don't favor much, then some cajun pork appetizer, which I favor much, and watching old and new friends dance.

My spot to camp tonight, a bunch of wild cowboys on horses riding into town and a Cajun-style Luau...

But you know how it is if I don't have my good cup of coffee... I better go on my quest to find the ONE and last cup of good java until Eunice on Saturday afternoon. And I just happen to know where to go, The Coffee Break just around the corner on Maine Street.

What do you know, next thing is all kinds of folks hanging out and drinking coffee...

Next is dinner and dance at the world famous Cafe des Amis, we found out that the dinner part might be later than usual because they already sold out the first round of seating, but what the hell, it's the dancing that is important. Don't get me wrong the food there is out of this world too, so we have to see how it all works out. We're way too many people to seat together, so maybe we just split-up in smaller groups and it'll all work out.

Dinner & Dance @ Cafe des Amis, the music by Terry & the Zydeco bad Boys, a few local dancers that join us... It don't get much better!!!

Boy did I sleep good last night, biking 54 miles and dance another 46 that makes a century ride, guaranteed sound sleep. Packing-up tent and luggage, then head back to Cafe des Amis for the famous box-breakfast, a simpler version of the real breakfast served any old day there. Scrambled eggs, sausage-paddy or bacon, grits or cheese-grits, croissant or biscuit, a good start for a strong day on the bike. I ride with Karen and Sharon for a while, out towards the Atchafalaya Levee to pass Pat's Landing and later Whiskey River Landing, two great dance places. Whiskey River Landing is one of my favorite places to see Geno play, just an amazing place along the waterfront of the Atchafalaya Basin. But we ride by all these places to go to McGee's Landing. 11 miles after breakfast it's time to change from bike to boat and go for the 20 minute swamp tour, in all these years I've been riding Cycle Zydeco I never managed to go on the tour, so I go this time.

Biking with S-Kare-em, Sharon and Karen, getting onto the boat at McGee's Landing...

Our Captain and another way of living in the wild...

Back on the saddle, riding along the levee, to the right is the Atchafalaya to the left is swamp, after going under I-10 we turn left and the landscape changes to farmland and small towns like Cecilia then Arnaudville. 15 miles pass and we all stop at this new place called NuNu's, yep as I said it's new. Here we regroup eat lunch and watch Harry dancing with a dance-instructor we had last year. It was a hoot to watch the instructor dance the leaders roll, which is usually the men's job, but Harry went right into the followers roll just to confuse himself even more, not sexually but in the dancing part. Lunch was great, you could order a la cart or go to the buffet, and that's what I did. Roasted chicken, potatoes with some vegetables and I should have had a beer with that but I'm having a headache all morning long, so beer is out!!!

Passing the Oak Tree with the big roots, then roll into Arnaudville to hang out at NuNu's...

Watching the dance lessons and the confusion of Harry...

Not much further down the road I had more opportunities to get of the bike, finding doughnuts and an extremely lousy coffee to get me into Washington, but not before 3 o'clock. I was still peddling against the wind when it was time to stop and take the 3 o'clock shot alongside the road with some nice flowers and the Welcome to Washington sign in sight...

And what about Me???

My photo
Berkeley, California, United States
My life as a vagabond in the last few years got me to some amazing places, met great people and have lots of stories to share. I love exploring, travel, biking, dancing to Zydeco music, hanging out with friends, biking and many other things to keep me in trouble... best is when I can combine a few of these things together!!! Then there is the photography, writing and might as well do some cooking too, after all eating is another of my favorite thing!!!
